AHG Announces Formation of the Atlantic Lacrosse Group.
Dec 9th – Moncton, NB – Charlie Bourgeois, President of the Atlantic Hockey Group, announced today the creation of the Atlantic Lacrosse Group. “As a strong believer in having hockey players develop athletic skills through participation in different sports – it is clear to see the benefits of participating in a sport such as lacrosse. We have partnered-up with some of the most dedicated, qualified, and experienced lacrosse administrators, instructors, and coaches to form the Atlantic Lacrosse Group”.
Beginning in 2020, the Atlantic Lacrosse Group will offer high level training for male and female lacrosse players of all skill levels – from the beginner to the elite level player. The group will also be committed to providing training, mentorship, as well as certification to coaches. The goal is to provide the best developmental lacrosse experience in a disciplined and safe environment. The advantage for hockey players is clear – and will enable the development of skills like hand-eye coordination, fitness, space control strategies, and well as providing increased resiliency with the physical aspect of lacrosse.
In 2020 playing divisions will include U8 (2013-2012), U10 (2011- 2010) and U12 (2009-2008). The program will include two sessions per week taking place on week nights. The schedule will be geared to avoid conflicts with other activities such as soccer. The June and July time period will also avoid conflict with the spring hockey season.
From Gretzky to Tavares, Shanahan to Stamkos, Canadian-born NHLers recommend playing lacrosse in the summer to improve hockey skills. “It’s lacrosse that helped teach me to spin off checks, take shots and protect the puck under pressure. My stick skills, the way to read the play quickly comes from lacrosse. The hand-eye coordination, is just one of the little things that helps you in hockey.” – John Tavares
The Atlantic Lacrosse Group will be hosting an initial information meeting with prospective coaches on Wednesday, December 11th at 184 Barker Street in Moncton, NB. Start time is 6:30PM. The meeting will include several special guest players and coaches, including a professional lacrosse player.
More information on the program will be announced over the course of the next several weeks.
